Recently we said goodbye to our first 10,000 Intern for 2025. Demi Awoniyi tells us a little about herself, why she chose LPPI for the internship and about her time with us.
What made you choose LPPI for an internship?
Towards the end of my university degree, I realised that I have a strong interest in the intersection of Sustainability and Finance. LPPI presented as an exciting opportunity to explore this interest further as responsible investment is at the heart of their investment approach. I was also particularly keen to rotate between the different teams and see how they work interdependently.
What are the three things you enjoyed learning about most during your internship?
My favourite rotation was with the Responsible Investment team. I worked on a project where I had to put forward a recommendation, I really enjoyed the research and analysis involved in making a compelling argument.
My time with investment risk where I learnt about the various ways the team measures risk was also a highlight of my time here.
Finally, the macroeconomic analysis really engaged the economist in me. I liked researching and discussing the relevance and effect of current affairs across different departments.
Tell us a bit about you.
I graduated from the University of Leicester last summer with a degree in BSc Economics. I particularly enjoy Environmental and Development Economics and I hope to pursue a master’s degree in on one or both areas in the future. Following this internship, I’ll be joining Nationwide as a Project Manager in their Change Development Programme which I am really excited for. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, especially fictional African literature, currently my favourite book is ‘The Fishermen’.
